Consequences and Rewards for an Employer’s Decision to Provide Health Insurance for Their Employees Under Health Reform

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) (i.e. “PPACA” or “Obamacare”). One of the main purposes of this health reform law is to expand healthcare coverage for all citizens. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, employer-sponsored health insurance is the primary source of health insurance in the United States and, as recently as 2008, “80% of the uninsured have some connection to the workforce.”
