The law of unintended consequences: Will ACOs and clinical integration increase malpractice liability?

The emphasis on the coordinated delivery of health care items and services is the touchstone of the emerging health care delivery system. Accountable care organizations, clinically integrated delivery systems, patient-centered medical homes, bundled payment initiatives, etc. (collectively referred to as “ACOs”), are all responses to the gradual abandonment of the fee-for-service approach to paying for health care items and services.
