Statewide law firm Broad and Cassel today announced the addition of Paul R. DeMuro, who joins the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office as of counsel in the Health Law Practice Group. DeMuro has a broad-based health law background, a unique knowledge to advise and consult with health care organizations on alignment and business strategies in the changing health care marketplace, as well as expertise in health care technology.
His nearly 40 years of experience in transactional and regulatory matters, coupled with his health IT expertise, positions DeMuro as a legal architect capable of designing solutions for even the most complicated situations, particularly those needed in the transition from fee-for-service medicine to payment for quality and cost-effectiveness.
During his career, DeMuro has focused his practice areas on corporate, health care law and technology. He is admitted to practice in 10 jurisdictions, including California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Oregon, Texas, Washington D.C., Washington State and Wyoming. He is also a CPA with an MBA in Finance and a master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Informatics at Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine. He is also a National Library of Medicine post-doctoral fellow.

DeMuro has authored or co-authored over 135 publications on varying health care and technology-related topics, including accountable care, value-based purchasing, mHealth and social media, biomedical informatics, clinical integration, regulatory compliance, e-health care, capital finance, corporate governance, Medicare reimbursement, health care fraud, and mergers and acquisitions, among others. Over the last few years he has delivered more than 400 presentations on health care issues around the world.
DeMuro holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, and received his juris doctor from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He also holds a master’s in Biomedical Informatics from Oregon Health and Science University, where he is a Ph.D. candidate in the same field of study. He is an active member of various professional organizations and has held positions with the American Bar Association, the Medical Group Management Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American Health Lawyers Association. He is also currently a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and participates in their Ethical, Legal & Social Issues Working Group as well as chairs their Finance Committee. DeMuro is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the International Bar Association.
